Während der Eröffnung der gamescom 2026 kamen keine echten Katzen zu Schaden und das trotz der Ankündigung eines Hunde-SciFi-Shooters von Halo-/Battlefield-Veteranen.
Zum achten Mal läutete Geoff Keighley und zum dritten Mal gemeinsam mit Eefje „Sjokz“ Depoortere mit der Opening Night Live die mittlerweile 18. gamescom ein. Im Eröffnungsmonolog wurden die nahezu täglichen Entlassungen in der Videospielindustrie und die hohen Hardware-Preise thematisiert, die laut Geoff Keighley so hoch sind wie noch nie zuvor.
